Let your mouse do the walking: Colleges

In Seguin, there are a large number of alumni from Texas Lutheran University, the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, and Southwest Texas State University, among others. Seguin is fortunate to be located in the San Antonio-Austin corridor, which has an abundance of colleges and universities. Seguin is the proud host of Texas Lutheran University, a liberal arts institution of higher education. Within driving distance from Seguin, there are several other institutions of higher education.

You can access the web pages of the following colleges and universities in the area, from the home page of the City of Seguin at http://www.seguin.net/corp/seguin/community.html#education

For this installment, I would like to let the mouse do the walking around the institutions that have the largest number of alumni in Seguin:

Texas Lutheran University, http://txlutheran.edu

In this site, anyone looking for information about admissions, financial aid, extended learning courses, sports, academics, alumni, cultural events, etc., can find it. There is a list of e-mail addresses and web page addresses of alumni; there is a calendar with all the concerts and cultural events, as well as sports events. The site has a link to the U. S. News and World report that ranks the colleges and universities. TLU is ranked exceptionally high. Past press releases are also available.

The University of Texas at Austin has a web site at http://www.utexas.edu/

This site is so full of information, that it even has a directory of U.S. universities; you can access their web pages directly. From the main page, you can choose topics that interest you, from 58 options. If you choose the "news" option to keep up with events at UT-Austin, you can access the online edition of The Daily Texan, called The Web Texan at: http://stumedia.tsp.utexas.edu/webtexan/ This newspaper has links to news sources such as the AP (Associated Press), which provides news updated 24 hours a day.

Texas A&M University at Bryan-College Station has a web site at http://www.tamu.edu The site is impressive, massive and comprehensive. A very artistic main page is what you see at first. From many options, any topic you choose branches out into numerous choices. Whatever you need to know about this university, and much more, you will find it at this site. The daily newspaper Aggie Daily has online news with even a Spanish section. If you ever need specialized research information, the library section contains links to very specialized sites in many career fields.

Southwest Texas State University has a web site at http://www.swt.edu

Using the alphabetical index of topics in the site, you can find what interests you about the academic divisions, student services, alumni, electronic publications, etc. There are links to library web sites all over the world, which can be accessed from http://www.library.swt.edu/alkek_lib/web/lib_webs.html

Among the many offerings, the site makes available links to national computer societies and other professional organizations all over the world, at http://www.computer.org/misc/otherwww.htm

To keep up with the news of your alma mater, from http://www.seguin.net

you can access a site that links with newspapers published by colleges and universities around the world, these are part of the 3,500 online newspapers from around the world. Also available is information for research papers or homework assignments, from a link to a site that offers 17,000 study links classified by level and subject, from kindergarten to college.

The future college students are still in the school system. From the web site of the Education Service Center, Region XIII, you can access the K-12 web pages of the school districts in the area.

http://www.esc13.tenet.edu/docs/districts/k12sites.html

The Seguin ISD home page is found at http://seguin.isd.tenet.edu/

Although under construction for now, the site will link to the web pages of each of the numerous campus in the system. The site features a large graphic of a "Mighty Matador."

The Marion ISD home page is found at

http://www.esc13.tenet.edu/docs/districts/marionisd.html

Recognition of exemplary student achievement is their first priority, and therefore, the page features the names of achievers of academic excellence.

The Navarro ISD home page is found at

http://barbara.navarro.isd.tenet.edu/

It displays an artistic graphic of Panther school spirit. "GO PANTHERS!!" is the first thing you read.

In this back-to-school season, it is my hope that you will let the mouse do the walking, and enjoy visiting these sites, as much as I have.
