If you missed attending the Industry Expo sponsored by the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce in '95 and '96, you can let the mouse of your computer walk you through the web sites of some of the companies that had exhibits there: the manufacturing companies which are the largest employers in the Seguin area.
Motorola has a massive web site at http://www.mot.com A search engine for the site is available. The (web) site is serious and comprehensive.
If you are looking for the details of a Motorola product, you can find it. If you are looking at what qualifications are needed to work at various plants, that is available also. If you are interested in official Company information, that is available as well.
Seguin is found in an image map of the world at http://www.mot.com/AECS/General/aecgloc.html, you can click into a yellow dot to get Seguin. Seguin is found in this map because the map is about worldwide Motorola manufacturing facilities.
Once you get to the Seguin plant at http://www.mot.com/AECS/General/aecgtx.html, you can find your way by clicking on the options at the top or at the bottom of the page.
In the Motorola web site, there is a copyright restriction prohibiting the public use of the content of the site. The content is available only for personal use. You can use the site's search engine to find the information that you need about the Seguin plant or any other aspect of the company. When you search for the Seguin plant, keep in mind that the plant is in the Automotive, Energy and Controls group.
The next stop is SMI Texas at http://www.steelnet.org/cmc. The web site offers information which includes the following topics: the SMI product line, steelmaking operations, steel on the job, history of progress, a part of something bigger, the steel group, the SMI way, and CMC Steel group key personnel and plant locations. It also offers a list of about 200 or so links to other steel related resources on the Internet, worldwide. The links are part of the Steel Manufacturers Association web site.
SMI Texas is the headquarters of the CMC Steel Group of companies in the manufacturing division of Dallas-Based Commercial Metals Company (CMC). Diverse aspects of the Seguin plant, a steel mini-mill rebar fabricator, are found in many sections of the company web site. At http://www.steelnet.org/cmc/history.html, you can read the history of Marvin Selig, who started the company 50 years ago. Pictures of the various departments are available at http://www.steelnet.org/cmc/ops.html. The site is well organized and easy to navigate, so that you can find whatever information you are looking for without difficulty.
The next stop is Tyson Foods, Inc. at http://www.tyson.com. The web site is a combined site of the Tyson kitchen and the Corporate site. These are some of the topics: commitment to the environment, news releases, quality assurance, Tyson history, Tyson today, from farm and sea (pork and fish), and a web page index. Recipes are also available. From http://www.tyson.com/corporate/PageIndex.htm, you can navigate easily.
The Seguin plant is one of the three Texas facilities for "First Processing/Further processing," in Poultry Operations. In the Corporate Home Page, the Seguin plant is in the What's Made Where section. http://www.tyson.com/corporate/WHATS_Where.htm#anchor655155
The Internet is the great equalizer. Companies that are not as large also have a web presence. Among these are two other companies that are part of Seguin Industry: Texas Energy Blanket and Prism Industrial Coaters, Inc.
Texas Energy Blanket, LLC, has a web site with an attractive logo, and pictures of workers installing insulation in roofs of metal buildings. There are also specifications for metal roof insulation solutions. The address is http://www.energyblanket.com. The company is an Owen Corning ELAMINATOR licensee.
Prism Industrial Coaters, Inc. has a web page at http://www.flash.net/~prism1/ A list of the various capabilities in industrial coatings is available; included are powder coating, silk screening and decorative painting. The site is under construction.
Other manufacturers in the area probably have web sites of which I am not aware of. If your manufacturing company's site was omitted, please let me know.
Doing searches of web sites related to Seguin, many addresses come up. There are tourism sites, community sites, sites of businesses such as realtors and other businesses which offer a wide variety of products or services. Also, there are web sites of institutions such as Texas Lutheran University and Guadalupe Valley Hospital, and others. Furthermore, searches about Seguin, yield Internet addresses for sites of a number of residents who were buried in Seguin. Plus, there are 10000 sites having to do with the work of Forrest Mims, the Seguin area Scientist. There are sites about some clubs and churches as well.
Therefore, the series of "Let your mouse do the walking around
Seguin" will continue for a while. There are still "miles
to go."
