Gardening and the Net, part 2

Related Gardening Links with Descriptions

When I am researching a topic for the Internet Beat I often run across a number of related interesting and often well written sites. Due to space, I'm unable to include all related sites in a single article. Here are some related garden sites and some brief descriptions of what I found there.

American Rose Society -- http://www.ars.org/ -- The official home page of the American Rose Society is visually pleasing and well written. A related site A Collection of Old and Old Fashion Roses -- http://www.halcyon.com:80/cirsium/rosegal/welcome.htm - Gives the visitor a glimpse of the past. Beautiful Pictures.

Botany Department at Georgia -- http://www.botany.uga.edu:80/ -- A teaching site loaded with information for the serious gardener.

Compost -- http://net.indra.com/~topsoil/Compost_Menu.html - How about a whole site dedicated to the wonderful art of composting. How to build a bin, what compost materials you can use and what to avoid. A must see for any gardener.

The Compost Resource Page -- http://www.oldgrowth.org/compost/ -- The author states that this site is intended to serve as a hub of information for those interested in composting.

Gardening, Growing and Nursery Page -- http://www.gardeningbc.com// -- Another Canadian site, this one provides good links to all types of gardening interests.

Gardening (Leisure and Recreation) -- http://galaxy.einet.net/galaxy/Leisure-and-Recreation/Gardening.html -- Offering links to other gardening sites including a comprehensive guide to pruning, directories and various collections. One of the directories listed is Texas's Master Gardener directory at TAMU. Two of the items in collections list were the City Farmer's Urban Agriculture Notes and Fruit and vegetable information at Cornell University.

Gardening Web Directory -- http://www.btw.com/garden.htm --This site offers book reviews, gardening tools and reviews of other gardening sites.

GardenNet -- http://trine.com/GardenNet/ -- Catalogs, magazines, books and multimedia on gardening can be browsed and even purchased. Guides to on-line gardens, Internet resources, and new gardening sites are updated regularly and will provide a bright and varied surfing experience.

The Garden Spider's Web -- http://www.gardenweb.com/spdrsweb/ -- A nice chatty place offering information, advice and links. The links are broken down according to types which saves a lot of browsing time.

Home Arts Gardening Central -- http://homearts.com/depts/garden/00gardc1.htm -- Interesting site from with seed swaps, gardening information and garden tours. The current articles tend to lean toward ornamentals. This site offers a plant encyclopedia which offers a zone map that advises what plants will thrive in your area based on what zone you live in -- http://homearts.com/affil/gardb/main/plantc1.htm

Jerry Parsons at TAMU -- http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/PLANTanswers/web.html - Great Texas site full of environmentally safe gardening information. Publications, TAMU Horticulture programs and plant answers are all available to this site. I think anyone visiting here will appreciate the effort by the Texas Agriculture Extension Service and TAMU to provide a visually pleasing and informative site.

Regional Gardening Sites -- http://trfn.clpgh.org/Lifestyle/Gardening/regional.html - This site mainly references on-line sites in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Canada.
